Outdoor Campaign Off to a Strong Start

The Basics
Event: Washington and Lee Carnival  
Location: Lexington Va.

The Lead: The Roanoke College outdoor track & field teams kicked off their 2022 season with a trip to Lexington to compete in the Washington and Lee Carnival. The two-day event featured men's and women's athletes from a multitude of schools including several other Old Dominion Athletic Conference members.

Women's Highlights:

  • Hannah Snodgrass crossed the line in second place to break the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.56 seconds.  The previous record was set in 2009 by Sarah Whitt.  Her time is currently fourth in DIII and the top time in the ODAC.
  • The Women's' 4x400m relay team of Haylee Gamble, Lily Lippert, Lauren Henson, and Mikayla Hefferon finished second overall with a time of 3:57.92.  That time is currently second in all DIII and the top time in the ODAC.
  • Savannah Gheen leaped a distance of 5.09m to win the Women's Long Jump.  Her distance is currently the top mark in the ODAC.
  • The Women's 4x100m relay team of Gheen, Hefferon, Taylor Poole, and Eleanor Hinckley would finish first with at time of 49.64 which is seventh in DIII and the top time in the ODAC.
  • In the Women's 100m Dash Hinckley and Snodgrass would set personal records finishing sixth and eighth overall.  Hinckley crossed the line at 12.65 seconds while, Snodgrass would be right behind her at 12.82 seconds.
  • In the Women's 200m dash Hefferon (PR 26.23 seconds) would finish fifth, Gamble (26.33 seconds) sixth, and Hinkley (PR 26.35 seconds) eighth overall.  Their marks are third, fourth, and fifth in the ODAC.
  • Lippert would finish in second place in the women's 400m hurdles.  Her time of 1:07.82 is currently 18th in DIII and fourth in the ODAC.
  • Kaitlyn Nguyen (PR 1.57m) finished fourth, and Cammi Winston (1.52m) fifth in the Women's High Jump.  Nguyen is currently ranked seventh in DIII and third in the ODAC.
  • In the Women's Shot-Put Grace Fowler would finish sixth with a distance of 11.41m which is the top mark in the ODAC.
  • Abbey Gajtkowski placed fifth in the Women's Hammer Throw with a personal best of 41.49. That mark puts her second in the ODAC.
  • Clare Kinney and Stephanie Felmly would post top eight finishes in the Women's Pole Vault.  Kinney cleared a personal best height of 2.92m finishing fifth while, Felmly would finish seventh clearing 2.77m.

Men's Highlights:

  • Brady Fowler also finished second in the Men's 100M dash with a school record time of 10.70 seconds.  The previous record was set in 1989 by Butch Chichester.  His time currently puts him sixth in DIII and third in the ODAC.
  • The Men's 4x100m relay of Grant Williams, Fowler, Blake Morin, and Samuel Crawford would finish first with a time of 42.25 seconds.  That time is currently ranked 9th in DIII and second in the ODAC.
  • In the Men's 200M dash Crawford would finish first in the field with a blazing time of 21.92 seconds.  That time puts him ninth in DIII and first in the ODAC.
  • Cameron Harris would finish Maroons in the 400m dash with a time of 53.02 seconds.
  • Chamberlain Zulauf would finish seventh in the Men's 5000m run with a personal best time of 15:21.59.  That time is first in the ODAC.
  • Hunter Bohon set a new personal best in the Men's Long Jump going 6.47m.  That distance puts him fourth in the ODAC.
  • The Men's 4x400m relay team of Harris, Bohon, Fowler, and Crawford finished fifth with a time of 3:25.92. That time is currently second in the ODAC.
