The Basics
Event: 2022 ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships
Location: Lynchburg, Va. (University of Lynchburg)

The Lead: The 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships was held at the University of Lynchburg this weekend. The Roanoke College women would place 2nd of 10 team while the men finished 6th in the field of 11.

Women's Highlights:

  • The Maroon throwers had a huge weekend as Grace Fowler would start the championships with a first-place finish in the Women's Shot Put. Her PR mark of 11.98m would set the tone early. Tiera Hudson grabbed third place honors with a distance of 10.90m.  Rounding out the top eight were Clare Kinney 6th (10.61m), and Elisabeth Cullen 7th (10.44m).
  • In the Hammer Throw the Maroons would go on to sweep the podium lead by Cullen's PR throw of 43.77m.  Abbey Gajtkowski was second going 41.61m, and Fowler was third with a distance of 40.83m.
  •  The final conference champion on the Women's side was the 4x400m relay. The team of Lauren Henson, Haylee Gamble, Lily Lippert, and Mikayla Hefferon would cross the line in first place with a time of 3:58.51.
  • In the Discus, five lady maroons would score points in the event lead by Hudson. She would go on to finish in second place with a distance of 34.21m.  Fowler would finish fourth going 31.61m, Kinney would be fifth with a distance of 30.53, Gajtkowski finished seventh going 30.27m, and Joselyn Struble would be eighth, going 29.00m.
  • Cullen would lead the Maroon throwers in the Javelin with a PR distance of 32.07m to finish in third place. Hannah Koepfinger (28.28m) would finish seventh, followed by Gajtkowski (27.57m) to finish eighth.
  • Kinney finished eighth in the Pole Vault with a clearance of 2.96m.
  • In the High Jump Kaitlyn Nguyen and Cammi Winston would lead the maroon jumpers with a third-place finish clearing a PR height of 1.56m.  Winston would also hit that mark but, because of misses she would go on to finish in fourth place.  Eleanor Hinckley would go on to finish tied for fifth with a clearance of 1.53m.
  • Winston would go on to place third in the Women's Triple Jump with a distance of 10.97m.  Brooke Ryman would join her in the top eight finishing eighth with a distance of 10.35m
  • In the 100M Hurdles Hannah Snodgrass would finish second overall with a time of 14.98 seconds.  Winston would go on to finish fifth with a time of 15.85 seconds, and rounding out the top eight was Koepfinger who would finish seventh with a time of 16.09 seconds.
  • Lippert and Koepfinger would finish second and third in the 400m hurdles.  Lippert would go on to cross the line second overall with a time of 1:06.22, and Koepfinger would sneak onto the podium with a third-place finish going 1:07.21.
  • Koepfinger would also post a top eight mark in the Long Jump going 5.07m finishing seventh overall.
  • In the 400m dash Hefferon would lead the maroons with a second-place finish of 58.08 seconds. Gamble (59.86) would finish fifth and Henson (1:00.4) would finish sixth.
  • In the 100m dash Hinckley would cross the line with a fourth-place finish (12.65).  Taylor Poole would also post a top eight time finishing sixth with a time of 12.95.
  • Hinckley would come back to compete in the 200m dash finishing fourth overall with a time of 25.88 seconds.
  • The Women's 4x100m relay team of Snodgrass, Savannah Gheen, Hefferon, and Hinckley would finish fifth with a season best time of 48.93 seconds.

Men's Highlights:

  • Samuel Crawford lead the charge for the Maroon men.  He would go on to win the 400m dash with a time of 48.17.  That time currently puts him 12th in the NCAA DIII standings.
  • The Men's 4x100m relay team of Brandon Justice, Crawford, Blake Morin, and Brady Fowler would cross the line in second place with a new school record of 41.69 seconds.
  • The Men's 4x400m relay team of Xavier O'Brien, Hunter Bohon, Brandon Justice, and Crawford would finish in third-place with a season best time of 3:21.74. That time was three seconds faster than their projected seed time.
  • Fowler would go on to finish third in the Men's 100m dash with a time of 10.70. 
  • Crawford (21.94) and Fowler (21.98) would finish fourth and fifth in the Men's 200m dash.  Fowler would tie the school record in the prelims posting a time of 21.50.
  • Cooper Neeble would finish third in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:43.94. Rounding out the top eight was RJ Birdsall with a PR time of 9:58.21.
  • In the 10k Chamberlain Zulauf was the top finisher for the maroons placing third with a time of 32:11.79.  Peter Smith would round out the top eight with a sixth-place finish (32:52.85).
  • In the Men's Pole Vault Edward Rygalski would finish fourth with a clearance of 3.75m followed by Miles Enstrom placing seventh clearing 3.60m.
  • In the Men's Long Jump, Bohon would place eighth with a PR leap of 6.44m.  

Up Next: The Maroons are scheduled to go to Johnson C. Smith University for a Last Chance meet on May 14 in advance of the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
