The Short Story: The Roanoke College men's volleyball dropped a non-conference matchup with Marymount on Friday evening on the road to Marymount, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The early portion of the first set saw the Maroons and Saints trade points until a short run by the home team gave them a 9-4 lead, forcing Roanoke to call a timeout. The Maroons would pull within two at 12-10, but small runs by Marymount kept Roanoke at bay with the Saints claiming a 25-17 set one win.
  • The second set saw Marymount stake a 10-7 lead. A kill by Jackson Rutkowski pulled Roanoke within two, but Marymount went on a string of two points to one for the rest of the set. The Saints took a 2-0 set lead with a 25-16 set two win.
  • Despite Marymount taking a 4-1 lead, the Maroons answered by going on a 6-2 run for a 7-6 advantage early in the third set, and enjoy another lead at 13-12. A four-point run by MU gave them the 16-13 lead with the Maroons pulling within one on two more occasions. The Saints would go on to score five-straight points to close out the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Michael Cummins led the Maroons with seven kills in the match while Connor Brooks finished with three total blocks, two solos, and one block assist. 
  • Kaeden Noble had a team-high seven digs over the three sets. 

UP NEXT

  • The Maroons will be back on the court Saturday morning when they visit Hood. Roanoke will play the host Blazers at 10 a.m. before taking on the Immaculata Might Macs at 12 noon.
