Maroons Fall to Eastern Mennonite 3-1 in CVC Action

The Lead: The Roanoke men's volleyball team took the first set from the Royals but unltimately fell 3-1 to Eastern Mennonite in Tuesday night CVC action.

  • EMU led until midway through the set when the Maroons went on a pair of 3-0 runs to take a 19-17 lead. After a pair of Royal points, the Maroons went on a 4-0 and closed out the first set by claiming the final two points, 25-20.
  • It looked as if Roaonoke would take the second set with a 16-10 lead. But the Royals would go on a 6-0 run to tie the score before the Maroon went back ahead 18-16. EMU followed with a 8-1 run to lead 24-19 before closing out the set 25-20.
  • The Royals would take a 2-1 set lead after winning nine of the final 12 points of the set.
  • Roanoke kept the fourth set much closer throughout the set. With the Royals leading 21-15, Roanoke went on a 5-0 to pull within one and within two at 23-21 before the Royals claimed the match with a 25-21 set four win. 
  • Jackson Rutkowski had a season-high 19 kills with a .314 attack percentage. He also added six digs. 
  • Leo Houser dished out a season-high 43 assists while also serving four aces and scooping nine digs. 
  • Both Kaeden Noble (12) and Michael Cummins (11) reach double-figure digs for the Maroons.
