Roanoke Men And Women Finish Runner-Up At Shenandoah

The Basics
Event: Hornet Harrier hosted by Shenandoah University  
Location: Winchester, Va.

The Lead: The Roanoke college men's and women's cross-country teams traveled to Winchester to compete in the 2021 Horney Harrier hosted by Shenandoah University at the Kernstown Battlefield. The men finished 2nd on the 8K course while the women also recorded a runner-up finish on their 6K course.

Women's Highlights:

  • The Maroons would finish runner-up (50 points) to the host Hornets (22 points).
  • Hannah Koepfinger would pace Roanoke with a time of 25:32.8 and finish 3rd overall in the field of 38 runners.
  • Roanoke would place two more runners in the top 10. Lauren Brown was 7th over (26:12.4) while Emma Maras crossed the line 10th (26:22.8)
  • Rounding out the top four finishers for the Maroons would be Madeline Bergeron with a final time of 26:36.1.

Men's Highlights:

  • Roanoke would cross the line 4-5-6 with a trio of runners.
  • Chamberlain Zulauf led the Roanoke caravan when he crossed the line in 27:33.9. Less than 10 seconds later, Cooper Neeble (27:42.2) would finish just ahead of teammate Peter Smith (27:46.2), giving the Maroons a trio of top 10 runners.
  • Josh Woodley finished 20th giving Roanoke College the only other top 20 runners in the 62-man field that wasn't wearing a DeSales uniform. Less than 10 seconds after Woodley, Andrew Deel crossed the finish lie to wrap up the runner-up finish, highest by any Virginia college or university.  

Up Next: Roanoke will travel to Louisville (Ky.) next Saturday at the Lou Cross Country Classic.
