Three Maroons Named to 2009 All-ODAC Softball Team
Three Maroons were named to the 2009 All-ODAC Softball Team announced this afternoon. Junior Kelsey Ruitenberg earned her third-straight All-ODAC honor as a member of the first-team. Newcomer Felice Lowery was named to the second-team while senior Jessica Zeman tabbed honorable mention All-ODAC.
 
Ruitenberg, a Geneva, IL native, led the Maroons in at the plate in batting (.368), doubles (13), home runs (6), RBI's (35), total bases (68), walks (16), slugging percentage (.716) and on base percentage (.461). On the mound, she led the team in wins (9), ERA (1.67), appearances (19), complete games (5), innings pitched (79.2) opponents batting average (.185) and strikeouts with 86.
 
Lowery, a freshman catcher, led the Maroons in at bats (110), runs scored (24) and hits (39) while second in home runs (4), RBI's (23), total bases (59) and slugging percentage (.536). She led the Maroons in fielding percentage (.982), making only three errors all season. She also threw out four base runners and picked off two from behind the plate this spring.
 
Zeman, a Floyd High School product, batted .351 with 22 runs and 20 hits on the season. She drove in 10 runs including two home runs and three doubles. Zeman led the Maroons with 12 stolen bases and finished her career ranked sixth all-time with 24 for her career.
 
The Maroons finished 24-11 overall, 12-6 in the ODAC. As a #4 seed, Roanoke won its first ODAC Tournament game since 2007 over Virginia Wesleyan before falling in eight innings to tournament-champion Lynchburg and eventual ODAC runner-up, Eastern Mennonite.
