Roanoke Sweeps Virginia Intermont
BRISTOL, Va. --- Roanoke swept Virginia Intermont with scores of 10-5 and 10-6 in non-conference action this evening. The Maroons improved their record to 9-1 while the Cobras dropped to 3-9 on the season.
 
With the sweep, Roanoke is now 3-1 against their in-state foe. The Maroons are now 6-0 against non-NCAA Div. III opponents.
 
Roanoke claimed the 10-5 decision in the opener. They rallied from a 5-2 deficit to earn the win. Hollee Warlitner's three-run triple in the fourth gave the Maroons the lead for good, 6-5. Then in the fifth, Felice Lowery hit a grand slam to give the Maroons four insurance runs and seal their eighth win of the season.
 
Abigail Rexrode went four innings and struck out four and was relieved by Kelsey Ruitenberg (3-0), who earned the win. She finished with three strikeouts and allowed only two hits in three innings of work.
 
Leona Rainey had two hits and two runs along with an RBI and two stolen bases. Sara Caudle went 2-for-4 with a run while Lowery crossed the plate three times. Alea Bier went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
 
The Maroons came back from a 6-0 deficit to down the Cobras in game two which upped their win-streak to eight. Ruitenberg and Lis Norwich each had two-run blasts which sparked the late surge.
 
Gretchen Wolfe (1-0) earned her first win of the season, striking out four batters in 2.2 innings. Ruitenberg earned her first save of the season, going 2.2 innings with one strikeout.
 
Rainey finished 3-for-4 with two runs while Ruitenberg was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and four RBI in addition to her fourth home run of the season. Warlitner and Norwich drove in two runs while Bier scored twice in the come-from-behind win. 
 
The Maroons will play in the Ferrum Invitational at Moyer Complex this weekend. They will play Baruch at 9 a.m. followed by Piedmont at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
