The game was won in the bottom of the sixth as Taylor Zahn (Sandston, VA, Mills Godwin)was brought home off a Hollee Warlitner (Clifton Forge, VA, Alleghany)double to tie the contest at 1-1 with two outs. Meghan Weingard (Boca Raton, FL, North Broward Prep)stepped up in a pinch-hit situation and delivered the game winning run off a single up the middle as the Maroons held on in the top of the seventh to seal the come-from behind win.
The Maroons completed the sweep with a 12-4 win in five-innings due to the eight-run mercy rule. Lis Norwich (Hegins, PA, Tri-Valley)(5-1) earned the win, going 3.1 innings with two strikeouts and three hits allowed. Leona Rainey (Sandston, VA, Mills Godwin), who finished 3-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base, belted a lead-off home run off the first pitch to tie the score at 1-1 after one complete.
Then the Maroons scored seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to end the game early and completed the sweep. Warlitner finished 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Scruggs went 2-for-4 with two RBI while Zeman and Bier both went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Zeman added a double, a stolen base and two RBI. Bier had two stolen bases and an RBI.
