Leona Rainey named ODAC Softball Player of the Week
Sophomore Leona Rainey (Sandston, VA, Mills Godwin) was named ODAC Softball Player of the Week announced Monday afternoon. It is the second time in her career that she has garnered the weekly honor. It is also the second Maroon this spring to claim the award.
 
Rainey, a centerfielder, hit .526 (10-of-19) with two doubles, 13 runs and 10 stolen bases in six games last week. Against Meredith, she shattered the school's single-game record with six stolen bases and hit 3-for-4 with three runs in a 11-4 victory. Against Guilford in game one, she went 3-for-4 with a double and scored four runs in an 11-3 win in five innings. Against Virginia Intermont, Rainey went 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.
 
For the season, she is batting .386 with team-bests of 26 runs, 13 walks and 18 stolen bases which are tied for ninth on the single-season list at Roanoke. She ranks among the best in the ODAC in runs (6th), stolen bases (2nd) and on base percentage (5th).
 
Roanoke is currently 17-3, 2-0 in the ODAC. The Maroons went 6-0 last week after defeating Guilford in their ODAC-opener, in addition to sweeping both Virginia Intermont and Meredith in non-conference action.
 
The women return to action this weekend, March 26-27 as they travel to Bridgewater (Sat) and Sweet Briar (Sun) in ODAC action.
