Roanoke Cruises Past Randolph in ODAC Action
LYNCHBURG, Va ---Roanoke cruised past Randolph, 7-0 and 11-1 Sunday afternoon at Randolph. The Maroons improved to 21-5, 6-2 in conference play, while the WildCats fell to 16-14, 6-8 in the ODAC.

The women are now 8-2 in their last ten games and ended a three-game losing streak to Randolph.
In game one, Stephanie Clark (Nathalle, VA, Halifax) got the Lady Maroons on the board first in the top of the first inning when she singled in Leona Rainey (Sandston, VA, Mills Godwin)After a scoreless bottom half of the inning, Roanoke exploded for five runs in the second.   The inning was highlighted by an RBI-double Rainey and a three-run blast by Lisa Scruggs (Madison Heights, VA, Holy Cross).

The homer was Scruggs' third in the last two days and moved her into a tie for the ODAC-lead with a team-best eight homeruns on the year.

Janie Holmes (Hartfield, VA, Middlesex)
added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI-single to left field that scored Rainey.   The offensive firepower was more than enough support for Clark as she threw five innings of shut-out ball, while allowing just five hits and striking out five.

Lauren Stevenson paced Randolph with two hits on the afternoon.

Rainey led the way for the Roanoke, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs and an RBI. Scruggs and Sara Caudle (Irvington, VA, Lancaster) added two hits each.

Clark remained undefeated on the season, improving to 3-0, while Brittany Via took the loss for the WildCats to fall to 3-4 on the year.

In game two the Maroons continued their hot hitting and stellar pitching. Roanoke jumped out to an early lead again in the top of the first on a double by Clark. The women scored nine runs in the fourth inning to put the game away. Lowery knocked a two-RBI double to center field and Rainey hit a three run double to left center to pace the Maroons during the rally. 

Stevenson picked up another hit in the nightcap for the WildCats to improve her hitting streak to a conference-best and school record 21 games.

Rainey stayed on fire for the second game of the doubleheader, again going 3-for-4 at the plate and adding four RBI's. Lowery continued to swing a hot bat, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.  Meghan Weingard (Boca Raton, FL, North Broward Prep) added two hits as well. 

Lis Norwich (Hegins, PA, Tri-Valley)
earned her fourth victory of the season, throwing five innings and allowing just one run. Kristin Hutchinson took the loss for the WildCats to fall to 7-6 on the season.
Roanoke returns to action Wednesday, April 6th when they host Emory & Henry. Game time is set for a 5:00 p.m. start.
