Softball Splits With #23 Bridgewater on Senior Day
SALEM – The Roanoke Softball team split a pair of games with the #23 ranked Bridgewater College on Senior Day this Saturday.  The Maroons now sit at 18-8, 6-4 in ODAC play, while the Eagles move to 27-5, 9-3 in the ODAC.

The game today marked Senior Day that celebrated the collegiate careers of two of the Roanoke College softball players, Katherine Kouri and Felice Lowery.

Bridgewater jumped on the board early as Hillary Rees scored off an RBI single.  The Maroons quickly responded as Hollee Warlitner hit a solo home run tying the game at 1-1.  The Eagles scored again in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Lowery hit an RBI double that scored Stephanie Clark, tying the game at 2-2.  The Maroons didn't get their first lead of the game until the bottom of the fifth when Warlitner hit a two RBI single to put Roanoke up 4-2.  But, the #23 ranked Eagles were not easy to put away as they scored two runs in each the sixth and seventh inning, reclaiming the lead at 6-4.

The Maroons battled back in the bottom of the seventh as Leona Rainey hit a two RBI homer, tying the game at 6-6.  As the game battled in to extra innings, Roanoke held Bridgewater at bay at the top of the inning, and then Clark took home on a passed ball to defeat the Eagles 7-6 in game number one.

In the first game, Warlitner went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and scoring a run of her own.  Rainey and Clark each finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs of their own.  Kelly Higbie picked up the win, pitching eight complete innings with seven hits and seven strikeouts. 

In the second game, Bridgewater came roaring back early in the contest, knocking in two runs in the top of the first, as Aven Thomas hit a two RBI homer.  The Maroons answered in the bottom of the second as two runs were scored off three hits in the inning.  Rainey  and Bier each picked up RBIs off their at bats during the second.

Bridgewater reclaimed the lead in the top of the third as Thomas hit an RBI single scoring Kasey Anderson.  This would be a lead that that the Eagles would hold for the remainder of the contest.  Bridgewater put two runs up in each of the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 7-2.  This score would hold through the end of the game, as the Maroons fell in game number two.

Warlitner went 3-for-3 in the contest, leading the team for the game.  Thomas was 3-for-4 in the contest with a series high five RBIs.  Thomas also pitched in the contest, giving up nine hits with five strikeouts.

The Maroons return to action Sunday, April 15th as they play host to Sweet Briar College.  The first pitch is scheduled for 1:30 PM
