Softball Sweeps on Senior Day against Sweet Briar
SALEM --- Roanoke swept Sweet Briar convincingly with scores of 24-0 and 17-0 during senior day at Moyer Complex Sunday.  The Maroons improve to 20-8, 8-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).

The softball team recognized seniors Katherine Kouri and Felice Lowery before the start of the twin bill, with gifts and special announcements.  In what was also Mike Mitchell's 100th victory today, these two young women have been a part of all of coach Mitchell's victories at Roanoke.

Roanoke scored 15 runs in the first inning en route to a 24-0 victory in the first game.  The 24 runs are the fifth-most in program-history, the most since the 2002 season.

Lowery would not disappoint those in attendance watching her play her final regular season game at Moyer, crushing three home runs and added a triple in the game one victory.  She went 4-for-4 with four runs and five RBI.

Hollee Warlitner went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and three runs.  Stephanie Clark went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and a career-high six RBI.  Kouri went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs while Rhea Schleicher was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI.

Leona Rainey scored three runs and stole two bases to give her 27 on the season, which is only five shy of breaking her own record.  She has the top-three single-season base stealing totals in the programs' history.  She is also two home runs shy of the second-most in a single-season.

Kelly Higbie (18-7) went five innings in a complete game shutout victory, striking out eight batters.  She is now third all-time in single-season wins (18), two shy of second and five away from breaking Amy Laymans' record (22).  Higbie is currently second on the single-season all-time list at Roanoke in shutouts (6) and innings pitched (159.2).  She needs only seven more strikeouts to become only the fourth player at Roanoke to have 100 in a season.

The Maroons won 17-0 in game two of the doubleheader, scoring 13 runs in the first two innings and collecting 20 hits.  Meredith O'Connell (1-0) won her first collegiate game, pitching five innings with two strikeouts.

Lowery led the Maroons, going 4-for-4 with five RBI and a double.  Clark went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run while Caitlin Manuel also went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a career-high four runs and two RBI.  Warlitner collected three hits as Alea Bier went 2-for-3 with a double, her first career home run and three RBI.

The women will host both Lynchburg and Randolph in the final weekend of the season, April 21-22, respectively.  Both conference doubleheaders will be held at Lord Botetourt County High School.
