Maroon Club Prepares for Festivities during the NCAA Div. III Softball Championship

SALEM - This past weekend, the Roanoke College Softball team won the NCAA DIII Newport News Regional Tournament to advance to the 2012 NCAA Softball Championship on May 18-22.  The Maroons, winners of 11-straight, including eight during their magical post-season run, are 33-9 on the season!

The best part of this news?  The NCAA Div. III Softball Championship is being held in Roanoke's back yard at the Moyer Complex in Salem!  The Maroons are looking to get support from their fans both home and abroad to come to Moyer or catch the game live online this weekend.

Roanoke opens up its tournament run on Friday, May 18th as they square-off against #5 Tufts University at 6:30 PM.  If Roanoke is victorious, they will move on to face either #23 Plattsburgh State or #15 Montclair St. on Saturday, May 19th at 6:30 PM.  If Roanoke should lose on Friday, the team is slated for a 1:30 game on Saturday in the consolation bracket.

Prior to the game, there will be softball alumni gathering on the patio section of Mac n' Bobs from 4-6 on Friday afternoon.  To add even more excitement, there will be T-Shirts along with a face painting stations for fans to show their RC spirit.  The Maroons' trusty mascot, Rooney, will be in attendance as well, keeping the cheers going this weekend.  The Maroon Club will have a tailgate set up at the park from 4-6 on Saturday.

ALL Roanoke students will get FREE admission into the game on Friday with RC student ID.  RC Faculty and Staff members (with ID) will also be allowed to enter the park for FREE on Friday night to cheer on the Maroons.  Courtesy of the Maroon Club, RC Softball Alumni and Maroon Club members are able to attend the game for FREE as well!  Sign-up sheets will be available with photo ID for RC alumni and Maroon Club Members at the gate.

Tickets for the tournament are $7.00 for students, children under the age of 12 and senior citizens.  General admission is $11.00.  Tournament passes are also available for $31.00 as well, sold at the Moyer Sports Complex Box Office on-site.  To purchase your tickets in advance, please call the Salem Civic Center Box Office at (540) 375-3004.  Children under the age of two are admitted free.
