#16 Maroons Split Final Contests in Orlando's Rebel Games
ORLANDO, FL – The #16 ranked Roanoke College softball team split a pair of games in their final day of the Rebel Games on Wednesday.  The Maroons defeated Bluffton University 3-0, but fell to Aurora University 5-1.  The Maroons now have a record of 9-3.

During the weekend in Florida, senior Leona Rainey stole three bases, giving her a career total of 110 stolen bases.  This mark sets a new Old Dominion Athletic Conference record for stolen bases, as Rainey passes Emory & Henry's Stacy Wright ('02), who previously held the record of 108 stolen bases.

In the 1:00 PM game, the Roanoke took on Aurora University (4-1).  The Spartans jumped on the board early, as Danielle Anthony scored off of a ground out to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning.  In both the second and fourth inning, Aurora's Stephanie Lynch tallied an RBI, as the Spartans had built a 3-0 lead through the fourth.  The final runs for the Spartans came in the fifth inning, as Lauren Huebner reached on an error that plated two runs, allowing Aurora to have a 5-0 lead after five innings.

In the top of the seventh, Stephanie Clark hit a solo home run, but that would be the only run Roanoke would score in the game, as the Maroons fell 5-1 to Aurora University.

The Maroons tallied six hits during the contest, with one hit coming from six different players.  Stephanie Clark scored the lone run for the squad, as well as picking up the only RBI.  Kelly Higbie (4-2) was tabbed with the loss, after giving up five runs (one earned), off eight hits, and striking out two.

The Spartans were led by Lillie Stone and Rebecca Randall who had two hits each on the afternoon.  Vanessa Hartzell picked up the win, giving up one run off six hits and striking out four.

In the second game of the day, The Maroons took on Bluffton University (4-3).  The Maroons didn't score until the fourth inning when Hollee Warlitner hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Alea Bier and giving the Maroons a 4-1 lead after four.  In the bottom of the sixth, Stephanie Clark hit her second home run of the day, this one being a 2 RBI blast, giving the Maroons the 3-0 lead.  The Maroons blanked Bluffton for the entire contest, as Roanoke posted a 3-0 shut out over the Beavers in the final game of the Rebel Games.

Alea Bier led the Maroons in hitting for the second game, going 3-3 and scoring two runs.  She was followed by Alexis Roop who tallied two hits.  Stephanie Clark led the team in RBIs with two.  Clark (5-1) also picked up the pitching victory for the squad, throwing her second shutout of the trip, and striking out five.

The Beavers had five different players with one hit each.  Chloe Shell earned the loss for the day, pitching 5.1 innings, giving up three runs off of seven hits, and striking out one.

The Maroons return to home action on Wednesday, March 13th as they host Guilford College in their ODAC opener.  The first pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
