#18 Roanoke Softball Splits Pair with Virginia Intermont on Tuesday
SALEM – The #18 ranked Roanoke College softball team split a pair of games with Virginia Intermont College on Tuesday evening, losing the first game 13-2 and winning 4-0 in the second game.  The Maroons how have a record of 16-5; 4-0 ODAC while the Cobras are 22-10; 10-6 AAC.

In the first inning, the Cobras took advantage of three Roanoke errors, two walks and two hits to gain an early six run advantage over the Maroons.  Roanoke tried to answer in the bottom of the first, as Leona Rainey and Alea Bier each hit singles, while Stephanie Clark and Caitlyn Manuel walked to score one run.  After the first inning, Roanoke trailed 6-1.

Virginia Intermont put up three more runs in the top of the second inning as Katie Smith hit a three run home run to right center field to give the Cobras a 9-1 lead.  They proceeded to put up one run in the third, and three more in the top of the fifth inning.  In that time Roanoke scored just one run in the bottom of the fourth as Rhea Schleicher hit an RBI single to score Manuel.  At the end of game one, Roanoke fell 13-2 in five innings.

The Maroons got just three hits in the game, one each from Rainey, Bier and Schleicher.  Schleicher and Bier each finished with one RBI, while Rainey and Caitlin Manuel scored the two runs.  Kelly Higbie (7-4) was tabbed with the loss after giving up six runs on just one hit, and zero earned runs.

Four different players from Virginia Intermont had two hits each, while three Cobras finished with three RBIs each.  Micalah Sacre (8-3) picked up the win, pitching the complete five inning game, giving up two runs off three hits.

The story was different in the second game as the Maroons held the Cobras scoreless.  Rhea Schleicher hit a two run home run in the bottom of the third inning, scoring Kayla Dehart as well.  In the bottom of the fifth inning, Hollee Warlitner knocked in Schleicher with a single to right field, followed by Leona Rainey crossing the plate after Clark grounded out to first.  After seven innings, Roanoke won 4-0 over Virginia Intermont.

Rhea Schleicher led the Maroons in hitting, going 3-3 in the game, while scoring two runs and two RBIs.  Leona Rainey, Hollee Warlitner and Alexis Roop had one hit each as well.  Stephanie Clark (8-1) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only four hits and striking out seven.

Five different Cobras finished the contest with one hit each.  Bailee Packett (3-5) picked up the loss, giving up four runs off six hits, while striking out seven.

The Maroons return to action as they take on Emory & Henry in ODAC action on Wednesday, April 3rd.  The first game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
