Maroons Win Two over Emory & Henry on Wednesday
SALEM – The Roanoke College softball team picked up two wins over Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent, wining 11-2 and 8-1 on Wednesday.  The Maroons now have a record of 18-5; 6-0 ODAC, while the Wasps are 10-13; 2-5 in ODAC play.
 
Emory & Henry led off the top of the first with a run, as Bethany Anderson hit an RBI single, scoring Ashley Ebersol.  However the Maroons turned it on in the bottom of the first and second innings.  Stephanie Clark started the scoring with a two RBI home run.  Hollee Warlitner and Caitlin Manuel scored off of errors, while Rhea Schliecher hit an RBI single, plating Kayla Dehart.  After the first inning, Roanoke led 6-1.
 
Warlitner hit an RBI double plating Bier in the bottom of the second, only to be brought home on Alexis Roop's two RBI home run.  Meghan Weingard and Leona Rainey had RBI base hits, giving Roanoke another five runs in the bottom of the second.  Through two innings, Roanoke held a 11-1 lead.  The Wasps were only able to score one more run in the top of the fourth, as Roanoke won 11-2 in five innings in the first game.
 
Hollee Warlitner led the Maroons in hitting, going 2-2 in the game, scoring two runs with one RBI.  Eight other Maroons finished with one hit in the game.  Alea Bier, Kayla Dehart and Alexis Roop also scored two runs.  Stephanie Clark (9-1) picked up the victory, allowing two runs off six hits, striking out six.
 
Six different Wasps finished with one hit each in the game, while Ashley Ebersole and Hannah Bays scored one run each.  Bethany Anderson and Sylvia Robbins finished the game with one RBI.  Taylor Banner (1-2) picked up the loss, giving up six runs off five hits.
 
In the second game, Roanoke put the first run on the board in the bottom of the third inning, as Stephanie Clark hit a solo home run to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead.  The Wasps tied the game at 1-1 after Bethany Anderson hit an RBI single, scoring Ashley Ebersole.
 
The Maroons biggest inning came in the bottom of the fourth inning, Meghan Weingard hit a two RBI home run giving Roanoke a 3-1.  Roanoke's next run came from Rhea Schleicher who scored on a sacrifice fly ball.  Alea Bier and Hollee Warlitner each scored on an error, while Alexis Roop scored on a Caitlin Manuel single.  At the end of the fourth inning, Roanoke had a 7-1 lead.  The Maroons final run came in the bottom of the fifth as Schleicher hit an RBI double, plating Higbie.  That would hold as the final run as Roanoke won 8-1 in game number two.
 
Four different Maroons finished the game with two hits each, while Stephanie Clark led the team with two RBIs.  Eight different Roanoke players also crossed the plate, as no player scored more than one run.  Kelly Higbie (8-4) picked up the win, only allowing one run off six hits, while striking out eight.
 
Bethany Anderson led the Wasps in hitting, going 2-3 in the game.  Four other players finished with one hit each.  Brandy Bryant (2-7) was tabbed with the loss, after giving up seven runs off nine hits and striking out one.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, May 6th as they take on Shenandoah University in ODAC action at the Moyer Complex.  The first game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM first pitch.
