#16 Softball Takes Two From Shenandoah on Saturday
SALEM – The #16 ranked Roanoke College softball team won a pair of games over Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroons now have a record of 20-5; 8-0 ODAC, while the Hornets are now 16-14; 6-8
 
The Hornets got an early jump on the Maroons in the first game, putting up three runs in the top of the first inning.  The Maroons started to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the inning as Leona Rainey hit a solo home run to bring the Maroons back within two, 3-1.  Shenandoah created more separation in the top of the second as Morgan Coble hit a two RBI single to right field, scoring Brittany Guepe and Maggie Waters.  Through the first three and a half innings, Shenandoah posted a 5-1 lead over the Maroons.
 
The Maroons had their biggest inning of the game in the fourth, as Hollee Warlitner hit a solo home run, while Meghan Weingard had a three RBI blast.  Stephanie Clark hit a two RBI double of her own to give the Maroons a 7-5 lead.  The Hornets scored one more run in the top of the fifth, as Heather Sink hit an RBI single to right field.  However, the Maroons scored one last run in the bottom of the sixth, when Clark hit an RBI single, plating Rhea Schleicher, and giving Roanoke the 8-6 lead, and eventual winning score.
 
Stephanie Clark and Rhea Schleicher finished the day with two hits, while Clark and Meghan Weingard tallied game highs of three RBIs.  Schleicher also led the team in runs scored, crossing the plate twice.  Clark (9-1) also picked up the victory in the circle, allowing six runs off 10 hits, and striking out two.
 
In the first game, Brittany Guepe, Denise Mitchell and Kimberly Brady each finished the game with two hits.  Guepe and Brady also led the team in runs scored with two.  Amanda Litwin (0-3) was tabbed with the loss, as she gave up the winning run in just one inning in the circle.
 
In the second game, The Maroons tallied the first runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning.  Leona Rainey plate Rhea Schleicher after an RBI double to give the Maroons the 1-0 lead.  Just a few batters later, Stephanie Clark reached on a fielding error that allowed Rainey to score the second run for Roanoke.  Shenandoah cut the lead in half in the top of the next inning as Kimberly Brady hit a home run to pull within one, 2-1.  Roanoke answered with a home run of its own as Alea Bier put up a round-tripper in the bottom of the fifth.  After five, Roanoke led 3-1.  In the top of the seventh, the Hornets scored one run on a fielding error, but that was the only run that would cross the plate in the inning, allowing Roanoke to win 3-2.
 
Alea Bier and Hollee Warlitner led the team in hits in the second game, tallying two each.  Runs from the Maroons came from Leona Rainey, Rhea Schleicher and Bier.  Kelly Higbie (8-4) picked up the win after pitching a complete game, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out one.
 
Four different Hornets finished the game with one hit each.  Brittany Guepe and Kimberly Brady led the team in runs, scoring one apiece.  Megan Tripp (5-5) earned the loss, giving up three runs off of five hits.
 
The Maroons return to action on Sunday, April 7th as they play on the road against Sweet Briar College.  That contest is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
