#12 Maroons Split Series with Bridgewater on Thursday
BRIDGEWATER– The #12 Roanoke College softball team split a pair of contests with Bridgewater on Thursday evening, winning 1-0 in the first game and falling 5-2 in the scond.  The Maroons now have a record of 28-7; 14-2 in ODAC play, while the Eagles sit wit a mark of 19-15; 9-9 in the ODAC.
 
In the first game of the series, The Maroons were only able to get a run on the board in the top of the seventh, as Alexis Roop hit an RBI double to left field.  Her hit allowed Stephanie Clark to cross the plate, giving the Maroons the 1-0 advantage entereing the final half inning.  Roanoke held off Bridgewater for the 1-0 victory.
 
The Maroons posted four hits in the game with Caitlin Manuel tallying two, while Stephanie Clark and Alexis Roop had one each.  Roop also finished with the team's only RBI, and Clark picked up the Maroons' one run.  Kelly Higbie was tabbed with the victory in her complete game shutout, only giving up one hit, striking out one and walking two.
 
The Eagles finished the game with one hit from Brooke Throckmorton.  Heather Jenkins was tabbed with the complete game loss, giving up one run off four hits, while still striking out nine batters.
 
The Maroons scored first in the second contest, as Hollee Warlitner hit an RBI single through the right side, plating Leona Rainey.  After the Eagles tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first, Bridgewater's Melanie Lamb hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third.  After three, the Eagles led 2-1.  In the bottom of the fourth inning, Haley Lloyd and Kasey Anderson had RBI base hits, scoring two runs, then Anderson scored on a wild pitch to take a 5-1 lead after four innings.  In the top of the fifth, the Maroons chipped away at the deficit, as Leona Rainey hit an RBI triple, scoring Rhea Schleicher.  However, that would be the Maroons only run in the inning, as Roanoke fell 6-2 in ODAC action.
 
The Maroons finished the second game with four hits, including two each from Leona Rainey, Hollee Warlitner, and Caitlin Manuel.  Raniey and Warlitner finished with the team's RBIs, while Rainey and Rhea Schleicher finished with one run each.  Kelly Higbie was given the loss, giving up five runs off six hits, while striking out four.
 
The Eagles tallied six hits in the game, including two from Kasey Anderson.  Anderson also finished the game with a team high two runs scored.  Brianna Cox earned the victory, only giving up two runs off seven hits. 
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, April 20th as they play host to Virginia Wesleyan at Botetourt High School.  That contest is scheduled for a 1:00 PM first pitch.
