#12 Maroons Split Series With Yellow Jackets, Earn #3 Seed in ODAC Tourney
SALEM – The #12 ranked Roanoke College softball team split a pair of contests with Randolph-Macon on Sunday afternoon.  The Maroons finish the regular season with a record of 29-10; 15-5 in ODAC play, while the Yellow Jackets finish with a mark of 33-7; 15-5 in the ODAC.
 
As the Maroons stand at the end of the regular season, Roanoke has the #3 seed entering the 2013 ODAC Softball Tournament.  Lynchburg, Roanoke and Randolph-Macon all finished the ODAC scheduled with a record of 15-5.  In head to head competition between the three teams, Lynchburg was 3-1, Roanoke 2-2 and Randolph-Macon was 1-3, leading to the seeding as it now stands.

Roanoke will play #6 seed Shenandoah University on Friday, April 26th at 2:00 PM on Field 3 of the Moyer Complex.  The Maroons swept the Hornets, 8-6 and 3-2 on April 6th.  Roanoke has an 9-1 record all-time against Shenandoah, winning the last four games.
 
The Maroons jumped on the board in the first inning as Leona Rainey led off with a single.  Three batters later, Hollee Warlitner hit an RBI single, driving in Raney for the early 1-0 lead.  The Yellow Jackets answered in the top of the fourth inning as Heather Lewis hit an RBI single to right field, plating Jessica Matthews and tying the game at 1-1.  Randolph-Macon went on to take a two run lead after Katie Woody hit a two RBI double, scoring Sharese Jarvis and Chrsta Simon in the top of the fifth inning. 
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Rhea Schleicher hit a solo home run to pull the Maroons within one, 3-2.  With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Meghan Weingard hit a game-tying home run to deep center field.  After the contest went into two extra innings, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on an error, winning the contest 5-3 in game number one.
 
The Maroons were led in hitting by Meghan Weingard who went 2-3 in the game, with a home run.  Rhea Schleicher had one run and one RBI off of a home run as well.  Stephanie Clark was tabbed with the loss, giving up five runs off eight hits in nine innings of work.
 
The Yellow Jackets were led by Katie Woody and Heather Lewis who had two hits each.  Five different Randolph-Macon players crossed the plate, while Woody had a team high two RBIs.
 
It took five innings for either team to get on the board in the second game.  The Maroons scored multiple runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Leona Rainey hit an RBI double to center field, allowing pinch runner, Katie Romano, to score.  As the next batter, Alea Bier hit a two RBI double to center field, plating Rainey and Rhea Schleicher.  In the bottom of the sixth inning, Kelly Higbie hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Morgan Wood and giving Roanoke its final score of 4-0.
 
Kelly Higbie led the Maroons in hitting in the second game, going 2-4 with an RBI.  Five different Maroons finished with one hit each.  Alea Bier led the squad in RBIs with two in the contest.  Higbie also picked up the pitching victory, throwing five innings, giving up three hits and striking out two.
 
The Yellow Jackets only put together three hits in the game, one each from three different players.  Kristen Dize was tabbed with the loss after giving up four runs off seven hits in six innings of work.
 
The Maroons return to action in game four of the ODAC Softball Tournament.  They face Shenandoah at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 26th at the Moyer Complex.
