Rainey and Bier named to 2013 NFCA Division III All-Atlantic Region Teams
LOUISVILLE, KY – Seniors Leona Rainey and Alea Bier were named to the 2013 NFCA Division III All-Atlantic Region Team, announced Monday.  Rainey was named to the All-Atlantic First Team, while Bier was tabbed with third team honors.

Leona Rainey, a junior from Sandston, VA picks up her second consecutive All-Atlantic Region First Team honor.  This also marks the third time in four years she has been named to an All-Region squad.  With the First Team award, Rainey is now eligible for All-American selection, which will be announced later this week.  The two-time NCAA All-American broke the ODAC career stolen bases record earlier this season.  The previous mark was 108 set over the 1999-02 season by Stacy Wright of Emory & Henry, but Rainey finished 2013 with 125 stolen bases.  Rainey also ranks first All-Time at Roanoke in on base percentage (.497), second in batting average (.427) and third in hits (214).  She also ranks first, second and third in single-season stolen bases for the Maroons with a top mark of 41 in 2012.  In the 2013 season, Rainey hit .432 with 36 runs scored.  She hit 12 doubles and finished the season with 16 RBIs.  Rainey had the team's highest slugging percentage with a mark of .676, while posting an on-base percentage of .496.

Bier, a senior from Bent Mountain, Va., picks up her first All-Atlantic Region Third Team nod.  On the field, Bier is a two-time All-ODAC First Team honoree, earning that distinction each of the past two seasons.  She hit .378 this season with an ODAC second-best 13 doubles.  She walked a league-high 26 times, helping her to a .500 on-base percentage.  She also hit a pair of homers and drove in 21 runs.  With the glove, Bier made just four errors in 319 total chances (.987 fielding percentage).  Bier was also named the ODAC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, for the second straight year.  In the classroom, she boasts a 3.955 grade point average as a Criminal Justice major.  The Roanoke honors program graduate is a member of several honor societies including Phi Beta Kappa (national historic academic), Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), Alpha Chi (junior/senior), and Alpha Phi Sigma (criminal justice).  She is a recipient of numerous awards at RC including the Turk Endowed Scholarship, Dreher Scholarship, the Bolton Award and the Kiser Award.
