Roanoke Falls in ODAC Doubleheader to Shenandoah
WINCHESTER - The Roanoke College softball team dropped a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference games to Shenandoah on Saturday afternoon.  The Maroons now have a record of 8-15, 4-6 in the ODAC, while the Hornets sit with a mark of 6-14, 4-5 in ODAC play.
 
Roanoke scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning, as Rhea Schleicher hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Taylor Sutherland on the play.  Shenandoah came back in the bottom of the inning, scoring five runs.  The first two runs came off of a two RBI single to center field, as Heather Sink and Brittany Guepe crossed the plate.  Lindsay Corbin who hit the single, came around to score after Morgan Coble reached on an error.  Karli Rorabaugh followed with another two RBI single, giving the Hornets a 5-1 lead after the first.
 
The Maroons started to chip away at the deficit in the top of the second.  With the bases loaded, a Katie Romano walk pushed Sarah Groft home,  That run was followed by Rhea Schleicher reaching on catchers interference, bringing Jordan Meador to score Roanoke's third run.  After two, Roanoke trailed five three.  The Maroons held off the Hornets from scoring again until the top of the sixth, as the Hornets put one more on the board after a passed ball brought Erica Kondzielawa home.  Shenandoah picked up the victory in the first game, 6-3.
 
Roanoke was led in hitting by Rhea Schleicher who went 2-3 in the game.  She also led the team with Roanoke's lone RBI.  Kelly Higbie was tabbed with the loss, giving up five runs in the first inning.  Stephanie Clark pitched the remaining five innings, striking out six.
 
Shenandoah's Karli Rorabaugh topped the team with two hits, while four other batters finished with one each.  Megan Tripp (2-6) pitched the complete game victory, giving up three runs off four hits.
 
Roanoke scored early in the second game as well as Jordan Meador hit an RBI double to left center field, plating Kelly Higbie.  The Maroons' lead held until the bottom of the sixth as Shenandoah had three multi-RBI hits in the inning, including a two RBI home run from Kimberly Brady.  The seven runs were enough to top the Maroons for the second game, 7-1.
 
Roanoke finished the second game with eight hits, two each from Taylor Sutherland, Rhea Schleicher and Jordan Meador.  Meador had the team's lone RBI of the game.  Kelly Higbie (5-9) took the loss, giving up seven runs off 11 hits.
 
The Hornets finished the game with 11 hits, as Rorabaugh went 3-3 in the second game with two RBIs.  Kaitlin Robinson and Kimberly Brady each finished with two RBIs as well.  Lisa Mitro (2-3) pitched the complete game giving up just one run of eight hits, striking out eight batters.
 
The Maroons return to action on Sunday, April 6th as they take on Sweet Briar College at the newly dedicated Field 4 of the Moyer Complex.  The first game of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
