Softball Blanks Sweet Briar Twice on Sunday
SALEM - The Roanoke College softball team rolled in a two-game sweep of Sweet Briar College on Sunday afternoon.  The Maroons (10-15; 6-6 ODAC) defeated the Vixen (4-13; 0-6 ODAC) 7-0 and 9-0.
 
The Maroons hold a 18-0 record against Sweet Briar College, going all the way back to the 2006 season.  Roanoke has held the Vixen scoreless over the last nine meetings.  During those last nine games, Roanoke holds a scoring margin of 116-0 over Sweet Briar.
 
Roanoke put up three runs in the bottom of the first inning to jump out to an early lead in the first game.  Emily Lawrence hit an RBI double to bring around Katie Romano for the first run of the game.  Jenna Pendleton followed with a two run home run, plating Lawrence as well.  In the bottom of the fourth, Stephanie Clark hit a solo home run to give Roanoke a 4-0 lead.  Jordan Meador scored in the fouth as well as she made her way home during a Kaci Frick at bat.
 
Clark followed her home run in the fourth with an RBI triple in the fifth, scoring Pendleton on the play.  Meador came up next and hit a sacrifice fly to bring Clark home from third, as Roanoke scored its seventh and final run of the game.
 
Jenna Pendleton and Stephanie Clark each finished 2-3 on the day with two RBIs and two runs scored.  Emily Lawrence and Jordan Meador each tallied one run and one RBI apiece.  Clark (4-5) also played in the circle for a complete game shutout, only giving up seven hits, while striking out a total of eight batters, her second highest strikeout total in a game this season.
 
Nene Jones went 2-3 on the day, picking up two of the Vixen's seven hits.  Megan Thompson (2-6) pitched a complete game, giving up seven runs off eight hits, while striking out four batters.
 
Roanoke scored twice in the bottom of the second against the Vixen.  Rachel Guilliams hit a two RBI single to right center field, bringing around Ashley Crouch and Alexis Roop.  After two innings, Roanoke led 2-0.  The Roanoke bats were silent over the next inning, but in the fourth, Roanoke tallied up the runs.  Guilliams started with another two RBI single, scoring Crouch and Clark.  Jordan Meado hit an RBI single of her own as well, scoring Guilliams.  Then, Rhea Schleicher and Emily Lawrence each hit a two RBI home run, giving Roanoke a 9-0 lead.  After shutting out the Vixen in the fifth inning, Roanoke won the second game in just five innings.
 
Rachel Guilliams, Ashley Crouch and Kelly Higbie each finished with two hits in the game, while Crouch led the team with two runs.  Guilliams scored one run and tallied four RBIs.  Higbie pitched a complete game shutout, going five innings, giving up only two hits, while striking out 10 batters.
 
Megan Thompson and Amanda Terry had the lone hits for Sweet Briar.  Molly Langford pitched four innings, giving up nine runs off nine hits.
 
The Maroons return to action on Saturday, April 12th as they play host to Randolph College during Alumni Weekend.  The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
