Maroons Fall Twice to #11 Ranked Virginia Wesleyan
VIRGINIA BEACH - The Roanoke College softball team ran into a tough #11 ranked Virginia Wesleyan team on Friday afternoon, falling 6-0 and 8-0 in the final Old Dominion Athletic Conference games of the season.  The Maroons now have a record of 11-24, 6-14 in the ODAC, while the Marlins have a mark of 31-5, 16-2 in ODAC play.
 
Virginia Wesleyan put up two runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Taylor Galvin scored on a wild pitch to get the first run of the game.  Megan Bell-Hill picked up an RBI on a fly-out, allowing Courney Bogan to score.  The Marlins scored two more runs in the bottom of the third inning.   In the bottom of the fourth, Tori Higginbotham hit an RBI double to center field, scoring Andrea Shannon.  Lindsey Inzana went on to hit an RBI single, plating Higginbotham.  Virginia Wesleyan picked up the win in game one, 6-0.
 
The Maroons tallied three hits in the first game, one each from Taylor Sutherland, Stephanie Clark and Alexis Roop.  Kelly Higbie (7-14) pitched a complete game, giving up six runs off seven hits, striking out three batters in the process.
 
Tori Higginbotham and Corutney Bogan each tallied two hits in gam eone, with Lindsey Inzana having two of the team's four RBIs.  Mackenzie Creech (12-0) also pitched a complete game, giving up just three hits, striking out three batters as well.
 
Roanoke held Virginia Wesleyan at bay for the first four innings, as the #11 ranked Marlins scored two runs through the bottom of the fourth inning.  However in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Marlins posted six runs off five hits, taking an 8-0 lead over the Maroons, earning the win.
 
Roanoke tallied three hits in the second game as well, with one hit each from Stephanie Clark, Kelly Higbie and Alexis Roop.  Stephanie Clark (4-7) pitched 4.2 innings, giving up eight runs off nine hits, striking out two.
 
Tori Higginbotham and Courtney Bogan led the team in hits with two each, while Season Dailey tallied three RBIs.  Kristina Karagiorgis (17-4) pitched five innings, giving up three hits and striking out nine.
 
The Maroons return to action on Monday, April 21st as they play host to Ferrum College at the Moyer Complex.  The first game is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
