Maroons Get Pair Of Wins Over Bridgewater to Close ODAC Regular Season
SALEM- The Roanoke College softball team closed the ODAC regular season with a pair of wins over Bridgewater College on Wednesday evening, 1-0 and 4-3. The Maroons enter the ODAC tournament with a record of 20-12, 15-5 while the Eagles are 11-28, 2-18.

The Maroons advance to the ODAC Tournament which begins on Friday, April 24th at the Moyer Complex. Roanoke takes the #3 seed in the tournament with their record of 15-5 and will play at 2:00 PM on Field Three against #6 seed Emory & Henry. The Maroons split a pair of games against the Wasps, winning 12-0 in one game, and falling 2-1.

In the first game, the teams went through four scoreless innings, before the Maroons put up a run in the bottom of the fifth. Taylor Carter first reached on a fielder's choice, and then proceeded to steal second base. Taylor Sutherland followed with an RBI single, plating Carter in the process. That would prove to be the only run of the game, as Roanoke picked up the 1-0 win.

The Maroons finished with four hits in the first game, as Carter, Sutherland, Jordan Meador and Rachel Guilliams had one hit each. Taylor Carter finished with two stolen bases, while Sutherland tallied one. Kelly Higbie pitched a complete game shutout, giving up four hits and striking out one batter.

The Eagles also had four hits in the game with Jen Balcom, Hannah Nyquist, Brooke Throckmorton and Rayann Foltz having one hit each. Hannah Trala was tabbed with the loss, giving up one runs off four its, striking out five.

Roanoke scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Rhea Schleicher reached on a fielder's choice, which scored Taylor Carter for the first run of the game. Later in the inning, Ruthie Williams hit an RBI double to right center field, bringing home Schleicher for a 2-0 lead. The Eagles scored their first run of the game as Mariah Wharton hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Brooke Throckmorton. After four innings, Roanoke led 2-1. In the bottom of the fifth, Rhea Schleicher picked up another RBI with a single up the middle, plating Guilliams.

Trailing by two runs, the Eagles charged back in the top of the seventh. Brianna Cox hit a two RBI double to left center field, tying the game at 3-3. Taylor Carter reached first on a dropped fly ball to shallow center field. She stole second. With two outs, Sutherland hit a single to left field as Carter was sent home and barely beat the tag home, getting the 4-3 win for the Maroons.

Roanoke finished the second game with nine hits, led by Rachel Guilliams and Ruthie Williams with two hits each. Taylor Carter led the team with two runs scored, while Schleicher had two of the team's four RBIs. Carter, Guilliams and Schleicher each notched one stolen base. Ruthie Williams picked up the win, giving up three runs off nine hits, striking out eight batters.

The Eagles finished with nine hits in game two, led by Briana Cox who went 3-4 for the game. Hannah Nyquist followed with two hits. Amanda Lutz went for 6.2 innings, giving up four runs off nine hits, striking out two batters.

The Maroons return to action on Friday, April 24th as they play in the opening round of the ODAC Tournament against Emory & Henry. That game will be played on Field Three at 2:00 PM.
