RC Softball Splits ODAC Doubleheader with Randolph
The Basics
Score:
Roanoke 4, Randolph 1
Records: Roanoke 11-12, 2-1 ODAC / Randolph 13-10, 2-5 ODAC
Location: Lynchburg, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke used a three run sixth inning to break a one all tie and go onto a 4-1 win over Randolph in the opening game of the doubleheader.

How it Happened
  • Rachel Guilliams got the Maroons going with a home run in the top-half of the second inning.
  • Things stayed that way until the home-half of the fourth inning when Rachel Hickman singled and Rebecca Montgomery came home to score after a miscue in the Maroon outfield.
  • In the decisive sixth inning, RC loaded the bases with one out before Becca Wenger singled to plate both Katie Priestler and Guilliams to make it 3-1.
  • With two outs, Becca Hicks came home on passed ball to make it 4-1 Maroons.
  • Ruthie Williams sent the distance in the circle for the Maroons allowing just four hits and one run to improve to 5-1 on the season.
  • Hannah Winfree took the loss, dropping her record to 3-4 after she allowed four runs on four hits in 5.1 innings of work.

The Lead: Randolph scored three first inning runs and got a complete game from Lindsey Chaney as the WildCats earned a split of the ODAC doubleheader.

How it Happened
  • A Dianne Davis RBI single and a Rachel Hickman double scored a pair to give Randolph a 3-0 in the first inning.
  • The Maroons threated to score in the third inning when they loaded the bases with one out, but Randolph cut down Kerstin Roth at the plate and Chaney got Williams to ground out on a fielder's choice to end the inning.
  • Roanoke rallied in the seventh scoring on RBI single by Erin Forbes with two outs to make it 3-1.
  • With the tying run on second, Cheaney was able to get Mattie Morris to ground out to end the game.

    Up Next: Roanoke will be back in Lynchburg to take on Lynchburg College at 1:00 p.m. in an ODAC doubleheader.
