The Basics - Game One
Score
: Averett 6, Roanoke 4
Records: Roanoke 6-5, Averett 10-8

The Lead: Averett rallied for three runs in the final two innings to take a 6-4 win over Roanoke in the opening game on Saturday.

How it Happened:
  • Averett scored three times in third inning, getting RBI singles from Taylor Dix and Andrea Grant.
  • Roanoke rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. After Erin Forbes got on thanks to an Averett error to start the inning, Mattie Morris singled her home to make it 3-1.
  • Later in the inning Katie Smith delivered a two-out RBI single to plate Taylor Carter and Taylor Slate to tie the game at three then Wenger singled to score Smith to put RC out in front 4-3.
  • In the sixth, Averett got a two-out RBI double from M.B. Smith to go back in front 5-4 and would tack on an insurance run in the seventh.
  • Emily Salsberry took the loss after going 2.1 innings in relief for RC. Smith got the win for AU allowing one earned run over seven innings.

The Lead:
Roanoke earned a split of the doubleheader behind a strong pitching performance from Ruthie Williams en route to the 5-2 win.

How it Happened:
  • Wenger got RC on the board in the first inning when she singled home Smith to make it 1-0.
  • After AU tied the game in the top of the third inning, RC responded when Wenger delivered a two-out single to score Taylor Sutherland to make it 2-1.
  • An infield single by Carter made it 3-1 after four innings before RC took advantage of a pair of Cougar errors in the bottom of the six to make it 5-2.
  • Williams threw six innings, giving up two runs on six hits, while striking out four to improve her record to 3-0. Taylor Asimakopoulos tossed a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the save.
  • Smith, Wenger and Rachel Gulliams all had two hits in the win.
