Roanoke Splits Opening ODAC Doubleheader with Guilford
The Basics

Records: Roanoke 10-7, 1-0 ODAC / Guilford 15-4, 0-1 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: A Taylor Carter single in the bottom seventh inning sent Roanoke to a 5-4 ODAC win over Guilford in the first league game for both teams.

How it Happened:
  • Guilford strung together three hits and took advantage of a pair of RC to go up 3-0 in the second inning.
  • Roanoke broke through in the fourth inning when Taylor Sutherlin singled to open the inning, was sacrificed over and scored on a Becca Wenger single to make it 3-1.
  • Roanoke took the lead in the sixth, scoring three times off a Katie Smith single that scored both Carter and Sutherlin to tie the game at 3-3.
  • Two batters later, Smith came in to give RC a 4-3 lead when Priester laid down a pinch-hit squeeze bunt.
  • Guilford tied the game in the next half inning when Caroline Barnette homered with one out to tie the game.
  • In the decisive home-half of the seventh inning, Forbes singled to open the inning and then stole second before Carter singled to win the game.
  • Teresa Wagner got the win in relief after tossing 1.1 innings of relief to even her record at 2-2. Casey Snead was saddled with the loss for Quakers.

Records: Roanoke 10-8, 1-1 ODAC / Guilford 16-4, 1-1 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Guilford scored four times in the sixth inning to break a tied game open and take game two 9-6.

How it Happened
  • Roanoke jumped on the board first when a Forbes fielder's choice brought home Jordan Meador and a Carter sacrifice fly plated Forbes later in the inning.
  • Guilford scored twice in the third inning to tie the game and took the lead 3-2 following a Sabrina Moreno sacrifice fly and a Anna Wolfe RBI that made it 4-2 in the fourth.
  • Roanoke rallied in the home half of the fourth inning on a RBI groundout by Taylor Slate and a Carter tied the game at 4-4 before Carter came home to score on a wild pitch to make it 5-4.
  • A Brooks Bray homerun in the fifth tied the game and a Makayla Crawford homer in the sixth sparked the decisive four run rally in the sixth.
  • Makayla Carver got the win for Guilford allowing six runs in a complete game effort, improving her record to 5-1. Wagner took the loss in relief.

    Up Next: Roanoke announced a change to its schedule on Wednesday. The Maroons will now play at Ferrum on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
