The Basics - Game One
Score: Roanoke 9, Shenandoah 1 (5 innings)
Records: Roanoke 17-18 (8-7 ODAC), Shenandoah 8-23 (2-11 ODAC)
Location: Winchester, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke used a seven-run fifth inning to defeat Shenandoah by slaughter rule in five innings in the first contest of the doubleheader.

How it Happened:
  • The Maroons got things started in the first inning after lead-off batter Taylor Carter was hit by a pitch and immediately stole second base. Erin Forbes bunt singled to put runners on first and third for RC.
  • In the next at bat, Katie Smith walked to load the bases and later in the inning Mattie Morris reached on an error by the shortstop, which allowed Carter and Forbes to cross the plate giving Roanoke an early 2-0 edge.
  • In the bottom of the third, Shenandoah would score its only run of the game after Kimberly Brady hit a solo home run to left field making the score 2-1 in RC's favor.
  • The Maroons opened the game up in the top of the fifth after scoring seven runs off of seven hits and two Shenandoah errors. That inning included a two-RBI double by Jordan Meador and an RBI triple by carter. Briana Nardone, Forbes, Morris and McDaniel also picked up RBIs in that inning.
  • Ruthie Williams, Smith and Forbes all picked up two hits for Roanoke while Morris and Meador had two RBI each.
  • On the mound, Teresa Wagner tossed a five inning complete game only allowing one hit while striking out three batters.


The Basics - Game Two
Score: Roanoke 11, Shenandoah 2 (5 innings)
Records: Roanoke 18-18 (9-7 ODAC), Shenandoah 8-24 (2-12 ODAC)
Location: Winchester, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke completed its sweep of Shenandoah on Saturday in similar fashion to game one, again using a big seven-run fifth inning to eventually win by slaughter rule.

How it Happened:
  • There was no scoring for either teams until the top of the third inning after Roanoke pushed across three runs. Taylor Asimakopoulos reached on an error to start the inning and in the next at bat Carter singled to put runners on first and second.
  • Forbes singled to center field to score Asimakopoulos and a wild pitch would put Carter and Forbes on second and third. Later in the inning, Smith hit a two-RBI single to center field scoring Forbes and Carter making the score 3-0 in Roanoke's favor.
  • Shenandoah was able to take advantage of two Roanoke errors in the bottom of the third inning and scratch across two runs to narrow the margin to 3-2.
  • In the top of the fourth, Kerstin Roth was able to score all the way from first base after Rachel Guilliams laid down a sacrifice bunt that forced an errant throw by the third basemen.
  • Roanoke rallied in the top of the fifth inning while taking advantage of three Shenandoah errors to push across seven runs that also included seven hits by the Maroons. Smith, Williams, Morris. McDaniel, Hall, Carter and Forbes all collected singles in that inning while Morris, McDaniel, Hall and Forbes all collected one RBI each.
  • Forbes and Smith led Roanoke offensively with one run scored, two hits and two RBI each. Carter, Williams and McDaniel all had two hits apiece.
  • Asimakopoulos earned her third win on the mound this year throwing 4.2 innings and only giving up one earned run while striking out four batters.
