Game 1
The Basics
Score: Southern Virginia 1, Roanoke 0
Records: Roanoke 2-1 | Southern Virginia 1-6
Location: Lexington, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke allowed just one hit but fell to Southern Virginia 1-0 in the opener.

How it Happened:

  • A Mykayla Johnson RBI double in the first inning proved to be the only scoring of the game.
  • Courtney Oliver was saddled with the tough loss in the circle for the Maroons as she allowed just one hit in six innings of work. She struck out five and walked just one.
  • The Maroons best chance to score came in the top of the sixth inning when it had runners on second and third but SVU's Megan Harmon retired the side to keep the SVU lead in tacked.
  • Harmon got the win after allowing just four hits and striking out three.

Score: Roanoke 6, Southern Virginia 2
Records: Roanoke 3-1 | Southern Virginia 1-7
Location: Lexington, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke earned a spilt of the doubleheader with a 6-2 win over SVU

How it Happened:

  • The Maroons got on the board in the first inning when Taylor Carter was hit by pitch, stole second and came around to score on a Katie Smith RBI single to make it 1-0.
  • With RC up 2-1 in the third inning, Taylor Sutherland made it a 3-1 game when she scored on a wild pitch.
  • SVU cut it to 3-2 in the next half inning and the game stayed that way until the top of the sixth when RC scored three times to make it a 6-2 game. 
  • In that inning, Sutherland scored on a wild pitch, a Marleigh Hall RBI ground out scored Becca Wenger, while a Carter double plated Rachel Guilliams.
  • Ruthie Williams started and went four innings allowing just four hits and two unearned runs. Emily Salsberry went the final three innings, giving up just one hit.

Up Next: RC will face Mount Union and Catholic on Sunday in Clearmont, Fla.
