Score: #13 Roanoke 0 | #4 Christopher Newport 9

Records: Maroons 14-3 / 0-0 ODAC | Captains 18-0

The Lead: The Roanoke College softball team made the trip east to face #4 Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon. The 13th ranked Maroons would look to give the undefeated Captains their first loss of the season. However, it was Christopher Newport that would enjoy the best of it, winning game one 9-0 in five innings. Unfortunately, game two would be more of the same as the Captains completed the sweep with an 8-0 win.

Highlights:

  • Trailing in the top of the fourth, Meri Bostic singled to right and advanced on a pop up. Bostic would be stranded in scoring position as RC could not cut into the Captains lead.
  • In the fifth, Carlie Patterson singled and Serenity Bishop drew a walk but the duo would be stranded as CNU would record a strikeout to close out the opener, 9-0.
  • Jada Karnes suffered her first loss of the season, giving up 12 hits and striking out a pair.

  • Hester got the start and went four innings, giving up eight hits but just two earned runs in the loss.

Up next: The schedule doesn't get an easier for Roanoke as they open Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Sunday with a visit from the defending national champions from #3 Virginia Wesleyan. The double header with the Marlins is scheduled to start at noon.
