The Lead: Roanoke hosted Guilford on Senior Day at the James I Moyer complex. The Maroons took a moment to honor their four seniors prior to first pitch with the Quakers. Roanoke recorded 11 runs while getting a perfect game on the mound in an easy win of game one, 11-0. In game two, Roanoke fell behind in the top of the first and could never catch Guilford as the Quakers took the second game, 5-1, to earn a split in Salem.

Highlights:

  • Meri Bostic walked and stole second before Jordyn DiFava was hit by a pitch. Shanan Hester delivered a 2-run double to deep center to get the scoring started. A Meagen Evans sacrifice fly made it 3-0 after one inning of play.
  • A Bostic sacrifice fly would plate Riley Croghan as the Roanoke lead would grow to 4-0 after two innings.
  • Roanoke would pull away in the bottom of the fourth, thanks to seven runs on five hits. Lauryn Chappell doubled, Morgan Clark reached on an infield single and a Bostic base hit would load the bases. DiFava singled to score one and then Hester and Evans were hit by pitches as Roanoke blew open the game. DiFava scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-0. Rachel Sirbaugh walked and then Makayla Austin laced an RBI single to right. Croghan walked to add to the lead and when Katie Collier reached on an RBI fielder's choice, the score was 11-0.
  • That was more than enough offense for Jada Karnes. The junior completed the 5-inning shutout in perfect form. No hits or walks and seven strikeouts was the final line as Karnes picked up her 16th win of the season with a five-inning perfect game.
  • Austin was 2-3 while six other Maroons would each record a hit. Hester had two RBI with three runs scored.
