Maroons Fall Short Last Day in Florida

The Lead: The Roanoke softball team fell short in their last day in Florida with a nine inning game against the Pioneers of Marietta. The Pioneers took the 2-1 victory against the Maroons. The Cardinals of Otterbein took the second game with a 6-1 victory.

Highlights:

  • After seven scoreless innings the Maroons entered into ITB with Erin Gorschboth on second. Jordyn Difava laid down a bunt to advance Gorschboth to third. Meri Bostic hit a hard shot back at the pitcher to score Gorschboth. The Pioneers were able to tie the game back up in the bottom of the eighth with a sacrifice fly.
  • The Pioneers were able to take away the win in the bottom of the ninth.

The Lead: The Maroons followed up their game one with a 6-1 loss to Otterbein

Highlights:

  • After seven scoreless innings Carlie Patterson reached first on an error by the shortstop. Madison Cooke singled to left center to score Patterson.

By the Numbers:

  • Jada Karnes ended the first game with five strikeouts to bring up her total strikeouts for the season up to 24.
