Karnes, Burns Named ODAC Softball Athletes of the Week

SALEM, Va. -- After tremendous performances last week in helping the Maroons 5-1, including 3-1 against Top-10 teams, Jada Karnes and Lilly Burns have been named the ODAC Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office.

Karnes earns her second ODAC Pitcher of the Week award this season after grabbing three wins including a pair of wins over No. 9 Randolph-Macon and No. 10 Virginia Wesleyan. She pitched a complete game in each one of her appearances with the games against Averett and VWU ending after a run-rule sixth inning. In her two games against nationally-ranked teams, she gave up just three earned runs while finishing the week with 13 strikeouts. She has now pitched over 400 innings in her career and this season has her lowest ERA at 1.26.

Burns earns her first ODAC Player of the Week honors  She collected a hit in every game on the week, including a pair of multi-hit contests. Against the Yellow Jackets, she had two hits, both for extra bases including a two-run home run in the top of the seventh that forced extra innings in which the Maroons were able to score two more for the win. Against No. 10 VWU, she hit three doubles. On the week she finished with 10 RBI and scored four runs herself.
