Sirbaugh Launches Grand Slam As Maroons Shutout Shenandoah in ODAC Doubleheader

The Lead: The Maroons shut out the Hornets of Shenandoah in their ODAC doubleheader. The Maroons had a combined total of 18 hits and 14 runs in their 5-0 and 9-0 wins against the Hornets.

Highlights:

  • The Maroons took the lead in the bottom of the third when Lilly Burns blasted a two-run home run over the left field fence.
  • In the bottom of the fifth Meri Bostic led off the inning with a single into center field. Burns followed with a deep fly ball into center field which brought in Bostic.
  • Rachel Sirbaugh led off the top of the sixth with a triple into right field which was followed by a single into left-center by Carlie Patterson to bring in the run. With runners on the corners, Madison Cooke hit a ground ball to the infield which brought the score up to 5-0.

Highlights:

  • After two scoreless innings, the Maroons put up 5 runs in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third Molly Epperson hit a line-drive single into center field bringing in the first run of the game. Kate Houle hit a groundball to the right side of the field which allowed for a run to score. Lauren Hoffman and Sirbaugh both singled to bring in three runs which brought the game to 5-0.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Maroons loaded the bases and Sirbaugh launched a grand slam over the left-center fence to walk off the game.

Up next: Roanoke remains at home to face No. 2 Christopher Newport on Tuesday, April 25th. Game times are scheduled for 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm.
