Roanoke Secures No.1 Seed After Sweeping Randolph

Records: Maroons 23-10, Wildcats 21-18

Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke sweeps Randolph in their final regular season matchup. Roanoke was able to secure the No. 1 seed for the ODAC tournament for the first time since 2007. Fellow ODAC rival Virginia Wesleyan has historically been able to secure the No. 1 seed since 2011. The ODAC tournament is scheduled to start Friday May 5th.

Highlights:

  • Roanoke took their lead early in game one by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. The Maroons had runners at second and third when Adriana Rivera hit a ground ball to the infield that allowed for a run to score. Molly Epperson followed with another ground ball to the left side of the field that plated another run.
  • After four scoreless innings the Maroons were able to add another run in the bottom of the fifth by a throwing error by the third basewoman that allowed Meri Bostic to score.

Highlights:

  • Game two started off the same as game one with the Maroons taking the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Bostic led off the inning with a hit by pitch and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Morgan Clark. Rivera followed with a single up the middle to bring Bostic in. Rivera advanced to second and picked up her fifth stolen base on the season. Kate Houle singled into right center field which allowed for Rivera to score.
  • Rivera went 3 for 3 in game two.
  • Lindsay Gedro pitched her sixth shutout of the season.
