Gholson, Long Lead Roanoke in 72-58 Win Over Guilford
SALEM, Va. --- Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County)and Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)combined for 34 points in a 72-58 win over Guilford Saturday afternoon at the Bast Center. The Maroons improved to 13-2 overall, 10-1 in the ODAC. The Quakers dropped to 9-8, 6-6 in conference play.

Prior to the game, head coach Susan Dunagan presented Long with a game ball.  The Cave Spring product became the 15th player in program-history to score over 1,000-points last Saturday in a win over Eastern Mennonite. 
 
The Maroons shot 45.5% from the floor, 53.6% in the second half and dished out a season-best 21 assists to stay atop the ODAC standings. They outscored Guilford, 25-14 in points off turnovers and 30-26 in the paint in the fifth-straight win over the Quakers.
 
Long scored 15 of her season-high 18 points in the second half while hitting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc an 5-for-5 from the line. Her 161 career three-pointers leaves her two shy of passing Toree Morris (Salem, VA, Glenvar)'99 for second on the all-time list. Long, who led the team in scoring for the sixth time this season, is 22 points away from passing Roanoke Hall of Famer Leonda Hudson '75 for 14th on the all-time scoring list.
 
Gholson had her third double-double of the season, sixth of her career with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The program's all-time blocks leader finished with a season-best six this afternoon. She is now tied with former Lynchburg player Erika Witten (1999-03) for fifth in ODAC History with 151 career blocks. Gholson's 39 blocks this year is four from passing Tracey Driscoll (Vienne, VA, James Madison HS)'88 for seventh on the single-season list.
 
Jaleesa Osborne (Ordinary, VA, Gloucester)finished with eight points, six assists and four steals to pace the Maroons. She passed Amy Saunders (Roanoke, VA, Patrick Henry Hs)'93 for second on the all-time steals list and now has 243 for her career. She is four assists shy from passing Katrina Williams (Salem, VA, Glenvar)‘03 for fourth on the career assists list.
 
Rebecca Bays (Roanoke, VA, William Byrd)tied her season-high with 11 points, along with four assists and three steals on the afternoon. Kendra Porter added six points and three steals.
 
Alexa Williams had a game-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting and three steals to lead Guilford. Ann Seufer hit 4-for-8 from downtown for 14 points while Brittany Atwater added eight points and four rebounds. Alexandria Miles pulled down a team-best seven boards.
 
The women host Emory & Henry on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at the Bast Center in ODAC action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
