Gholson named ODAC Player of the Week
Junior center Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County) was named ODAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week announced this afternoon. She is only the second winter sports athlete to receive the weekly honor this season.
 
Gholson totaled 30 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocked shots in ODAC wins at Bridgewater (72-63) and at home against Guilford in a 72-58 win. She entered last week as the school's career leader in blocked shots and enters tomorrow night's game tied for fifth all-time in ODAC History with 151 blocked shots.
 
An Honorable Mention All-ODAC selection last winter, Gholson notched her third double-double of the season, sixth of her career, with 16 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six blocks against the Quakers last Saturday. She finished with 14 points, three rebounds and three blocks against the Eagles last Tuesday.
 
The team's leader in scoring (12.5 ppg) and blocked shots (39) is the first women's basketball player since Erin Hanson '07 (Blacksburg, VA, Blacksburg) in 2007 to earn weekly recognition in the ODAC. Gholson is currently shooting a team-best 49.4% from the floor (sixth in the ODAC) and third in free-throw percentage (84.6%). She leads the conference and is currently ranked 34th nationally in blocks per game (2.3).
 
The Maroons are 13-2 overall, 10-1 in the ODAC which is tied with Randolph-Macon for first in the standings. They will host Emory & Henry tomorrow, Jan. 26 with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
