Maroons Sting Wasps, 73-57
SALEM, Va. --- An 18-2 run midway through the second half secured Roanoke's 73-57 win over Emory & Henry Tuesday evening at the Bast Center. The Maroons improved to 14-2 overall, 11-1 in the ODAC. The Wasps dropped to 5-10, 4-7 in conference play.
 
Up only five with 12:13 remaining, Roanoke pulled away scoring 18 of the next 20 points to make it, 65-44 at the 7:20 mark. The Wasps cut it to within 14 with less than a minute remaining after a 9-0 run. Rachel Dellehunt (Kinderhook, NY, Ichabod Crane)scored her first collegiate bucket off an assist from Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook)to give the final result.
 
Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, VA, Lord Botetourt)had her best collegiate game, scoring 18 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in her second double-double in three games. Both categories were career-highs along with her free throw shooting, going 8-for-9 from the line. Her three blocked shots tonight gives her 28 for the season.
 
Jaleesa Osborne (Ordinary, VA, Gloucester)also had a career-night, scoring a season-best 22 points and hitting a career-high six three-pointers, two shy of the single-game record at Roanoke. She was lights out, going 8-of-9 overall, including 6-for-6 from beyond the arc. Her four assists tonight tied Katrina Williams (Salem, VA, Glenvar)'03 for fourth on the career list at Roanoke with 337. She added three steals.
 
Roanoke jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first five minutes of action. But the Wasps responded with a 16-1 run over the ensuing 6:30 to take a four-point lead, 20-16.
 
Down 22-18, the Maroons outscored E&H, 16-3, to end the half. Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)scored eight points in the final six minutes to help give her team the nine-point halftime advantage.
 
The Maroons momentum poured into the second half, as they scored the first six points to extend their lead to 15 with 16:32 left.
 
E&H answered with a run of their own, as the Wasps went on a 17-7 run over the next four-plus minutes to make it a five-point game.
 
Roanoke outrebounded E&H, 53-37 in the second-highest rebounding and margin total of the season. They outscored the Wasps, 18-6 in second chance points and 22-6 in the paint, as the Maroons came away with its' sixth-straight win.
 
Long scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half and shot 4-for-4 from the line, 3-of-7 from downtown. She passed Toree Morris (Salem, VA, Glenvar)'99 for second on the career three-pointers list with 164. She enters this weekend needing only nine points to pass Crystal Barrett (Roanoke, VA, Northside)'02 for 13th on the career scoring list at Roanoke.
 
Kendra Porter (Jamestown, NC, Dudley)had a solid game, finishing with four points and posted season-highs of six rebounds and five steals.
 
Christina Howard and Sarah Petty led Emory & Henry with 11 points each. Baylie Snyder added 10 points and six rebounds followed by Alex Lyons with nine counters.
 
The women return to action Friday, Jan. 29 as they host Randolph College in ODAC play. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
