Roanoke Ranked Second in NCAA Div. III Womenâ??s Basketball South Region Rankings
Roanoke Women's Basketball climbed one spot from third to second in the latest NCAA Div. III South Region rankings announced Wednesday afternoon. In-state foe Christopher Newport, ranked ninth in the USA Today/ESPN Top-25 Poll, owns the top spot in the poll.

The Captains, ranked 15th in the D3Hoops.com Top-25 poll, own a 20-0 overall record as only the second team in Div. III women's hoops to state that claim. Louisiana College (17-2) is third in the south region, currently ranked 20th (USA Today/ESPN) and 21st (D3Hoops.com) in the national polls.

Roanoke is 18-2 overall, 15-1 in conference play. The Maroons avenged its loss to Randolph-Macon last month in a 67-66 win Feb. 4. It was their 10th-straight win since falling to the Yellow Jackets on Jan. 8. The other loss came against in-state non-conference rival Ferrum on Dec. 15. The Panthers are currently 15-5 on the season.

On the national scale, Roanoke is ranked among the top-25 in scoring defense (14th), field goal percentage defense (15th), scoring margin (24th), blocked shots per game (25th). The Maroons are ranked second in the ODAC in rebounding margin, assists per game, turnover margin and free-throw percentage.

Mary-Hardin Baylor (17-4), Hendrix (15-4) and Howard Payne (17-4) round out the south region poll. The Maroons will return to action this weekend at Emory & Henry (Feb. 13) and at home against Virginia Wesleyan (Feb. 14).
