Maroons Cruise Past Wasps, 57-39
EMORY, Va. --- Roanoke jumped out to a 34-19 halftime lead and cruised to a 57-39 win at Emory & Henry Saturday afternoon at the King Center. Roanoke improved to 19-2 overall, 16-1 in the ODAC. The Wasps dropped to 6-14, 5-10 in conference play.
The Maroons shot 45.1% from the floor, holding the Wasps to a mere 24.1% on the afternoon. E&H shot a perfect 11-of-11 on the day, but Roanoke scored 17 points off 17 forced turnovers.
Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County)and Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)each had a game-high 11 points to lead Roanoke. Long finished with five rebounds, game-high four assists and two steals while connecting on three treys. Kendra Porter (Jamestown, NC, Dudley)tossed in eight makers for the Maroons.
Alex Lyons led EHC with 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Baylie Snyder added nine counters followed by Christina Howard with eight off the bench. Sarah Petty finished with four points, six boards, and three steals.
The women return to action tomorrow when the Maroons host Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC action. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Bast Center.
