Roanoke Receives Votes in Latest D3Hoops.com Womenâ??s Basketball Top-25 Poll
Roanoke College received votes in the D3Hoops.com women's basketball top-25 poll announced Monday evening. The Maroons received four votes in the weekly survey.
 
Finishing the regular season, 22-2 overall and 19-1 in the ODAC, the Maroons earned the conference's regular season title for a second-straight season. It is the first time back in the national poll since Dec. 28, 2009.
 
Also in the weekly poll is NCAA South Region schools, Christopher Newport (12th), Louisiana College (17th), Howard Payne (RV) and Hendrix (RV). The Maroons are currently ranked second in the regional rankings behind the Captains, who finished the regular season with an undefeated 25-0 mark and claimed the USA-South Conference regular season title.
 
Roanoke is ranked ninth in the country in field goal percentage defense (32.3%), 13th in scoring defense (50.4 ppg), 27th in scoring margin (15.4) and 29th in blocked shots per game (4.9 bpg). The Maroons, who enter the ODAC Tournament Thursday as the #1 seed for the second-straight season, are currently riding a 14-game win streak, which is the longest since 1996-97.
 
The women will open the 2010 ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament against Lynchburg for the third-straight year on Thursday, Feb. 25. The Maroons are 5-0 in ODAC Tournament play against the Hornets. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
