Nicci Moats named ODAC Player of the Week in Womenâ??s Basketball
Junior Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, VA, Lord Botetourt) was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Week in women's basketball announced Monday evening. The 6-1 forward/center earned the weekly honor for the first time in her career.
 
Moats, a junior from Blue Ridge, Va., posted back-to-back double-doubles to help the Maroons to a pair of ODAC victories over Bridgewater and Washington and Lee. Moats tossed in 21 points to go with 11 rebounds (five offensive) to go with four blocks and four steals in Roanoke's 65-63 win over the Eagles. Moats provided the deciding score, hitting a lay-up with 0.9-seconds showing on the game clock. Moats followed up that showing with 15 points and 11 boards (five offensive) in a 68-61 win over the Generals. She turned away three shots in that outing, also adding a pair of steals. She collected two assists in each contest as well.
 
Moats and Jasmine Greene from Hollins lead the ODAC with four double-doubles. Moats tops the league in rebounds (10.4 rpg) and blocked shots (3.2 bpg) while her 14.1 points per game leads the Maroons. She currently has 70 blocked shots in two years at Roanoke, moving her one behind Sarah Dingledine (Standardsville, VA, William Monroe) ‘00 for eighth on the career list. Her 29 blocks on the year are three shy of 10th on the single-season list.
 
The women are currently 6-3 overall with a 5-0 record in conference play. The Maroons will host Randolph-Macon on Friday, Jan. 14 with the game scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bast Center.
