Game Notes vs. Bridgewater - Women's Basketball
Roanoke will take on its fifth undefeated opponent this season in Bridgewater (8-0) in ODAC action tonight at 7 p.m. at the Bast Center. The Maroons, who are 4-3, 3-0 in the conference, will tip-off the 2011 portion of their schedule after a two-week holiday break.
 
The Maroons have played against one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. They defeated Ferrum (7-2) 73-64 in overtime but fell to then #14 Mary Washington, 70-61 in the Randolph-Macon Tip-Off Classic. Junior Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, VA, Lord Botetourt) was named tournament MVP. They competed in the Las Vegas Hoopla and fell to then #6 Babson (10-0) and Hanover (10-0) in less than 24 hours.
 
Moats is leading the conference in rebounding (10.3 rpg) and second in blocked shots (22) while leading the Maroons in scoring (13.0 ppg). Senior captain Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County) (12.3 ppg) is averaging 6.6 boards per game in addition to shooting a team-best 53.8% from the floor and 84.2% from the line. She is second on the squad in steals (10). She is only 32 points shy of becoming the 16th player in Roanoke women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points. Her 177 career blocked shots are sixth all-time in ODAC women's basketball history. She is 16 blocks behind Megan Babst (WLU), who is fifth with 193.
 
The Eagles, which has four votes in the D3Hoops.com Top-25 Poll, hold a 4-0 mark in ODAC play. Senior Jordan Burkholder leads the conference in scoring (19.6 ppg) and steals (46) while third in assists (28). She leads Bridgewater in three-pointers made (12), free-throws made (33) and field goals made (56) and second in rebounds per game (6.4 rpg). She was named ODAC Player of the Week on Dec. 20 for her performance in the Cruzin' Classic in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Burkholder has led the Eagles in scoring in all but two games this season. Jessica Mullen (13.5 ppg) leads the Eagles in free-throw percentage (81.8%) and has totaled 15 steals while averaging 4.3 boards per game.
