Roanoke Tops Washington and Lee, 68-61 in ODAC Action
LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee jumped out to a 24-5 lead to start the game, but Roanoke fought back in a big way to post a 68-61 win in ODAC action Friday evening at the Warner Center. The Maroons improved to 6-3, 5-0 in conference play, while the Generals fell to 6-4, 3-2 in the ODAC.
The Generals held a 16-point lead with just under seven-minutes remaining in the first half, but a 15-1 run by Roanoke cut the advantage to within two, 31-29, with 24-seconds left before halftime.  A Kari Ann Pfannenstein three-pointer gave W&L a 34-29 lead at the break.
Washington and Lee held the lead until junior center Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) hit a layup with 16:45 left to give the Maroons their first lead in the game, 37-36.  The Generals remained within seven points for the better part of the second stanza. Felice Herman split a pair of free throws with 3:05 left in the game to pull to within four, 60-56, but Roanoke held on to defeated W&L for the third-straight meeting.
Ingram led three players in double-figures for W&L with 19 points, 16 in the first half.  Becca Bolton totaled 11 points, while Allie Long tossed in 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals.  Katy Wilson added a team-high 11 rebounds.
Roanoke was paced by senior guard Kendra Porter (Jamestown, N.C./Dudley), who notched season-bests of 16 points and five steals.  Moats totaled 15 points, 12 in the second half, and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. She added three blocks to move into sixth-place all-time on the all-time list at Roanoke with 76.  Senior forward Jordan Gholson (Louisa, Va./Louisa County) contributed 11 points and six boards. She is now 10 points shy of becoming the 16th player at Roanoke to join the 1,000-point club.
Roanoke's swarming defense held W&L to 36.7% shooting from the field and caused 25 turnovers.  The women converted off of the Generals mishaps, scoring 19 points off turnovers. RC shot 43.3% from the field and recorded 17 steals.  The double-digit comeback was the second in as many games for the Maroons who remain undefeated in conference play.
Roanoke returns to action as they host Randolph-Macon Friday, Jan. 14th at the Bast Center.  Tip-off is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
