Randolph-Macon Escapes with win at Roanoke, 73-71
SALEM, Va. --- Randolph-Macon hit a three-pointer with 11.4 seconds remaining and held on to win, 73-71 over ODAC-leader, Roanoke in conference action. The Yellow Jackets improved to 9-4, 7-1 in the ODAC, while the Maroons slipped to 6-4, 5-1 in conference play.

Maggie Roy hit a deep three-pointer with 11.4 seconds left in their final possession to give the Yellow Jackets the lead and eventually their fourth-straight win. It broke a 13-game home win-streak for the Maroons.

The Maroons had a chance to earn the win with 1.7 seconds left as Rebecca Bays (Roanoke, VA, William Byrd) threw in the in-bound pass to Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, VA, Lord Botetourt), but Randolph-Macon's defense batted the ball away to give them the win and break Roanoke's 19-game ODAC win-streak.

Roanoke shot 44% from the floor, including 40% from three-point range. Randolph-Macon shot 37% overall, 38% (9-for-24) from beyond the arc and 84% (16-of-19) from the charity stripe. The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded the Maroons, 43-37.

The last three meetings have been decided by four points or less and R-MC is the only team that head coach Susan Dunagan has a losing record against (32-30). The Yellow Jackets own a 26-8 record against their ODAC-rival since the 2000-01 season.

Moats paced the Maroons with a career-best 23 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals. The ODAC Player of the Week shot 8-of-11 from the floor in addition to 7-of-9 from the line. Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County) became the 16th player in women's basketball history at Roanoke to score over 1,000 career points. She narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds to go along with three blocked shots and two steals.

Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA, Fort Defiance) added a season-best 10 points, shooting 4-of-7 from the field tonight. Kendra Porter (Jamestown, NC, Dudley) tossed in eight points while Bays had a solid night for the Maroons. She had six points and six rebounds with a game-high seven assists.

Roy and Katie Williams led R-MC with 12 points each, followed by Lindsey Sharman with 10 counters. Taylor Wieczorek had eight points and a game-best 10 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

The women return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC action. Tip-off is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
