Roanoke downs Hollins, 70-53 in ODAC Action
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke defeated Hollins, 70-53 in ODAC action Friday evening in conference action. The Maroons improved to 9-4, 8-1 in the ODAC, while Hollins dropped to 4-11, 2-9 in conference play.
 
The Maroons outrebounded Hollins, 44-32 and shot 44.2% for the game. Hollins shot 3-for-10 from the line and 34.5% from the field.
 
Hollins took Roanoke's best shot early with a 21-19 lead.  The Maroons, who are atop the ODAC standings, went on an 11-0 run and took a seven-point lead into the break. 
 
Both teams came out and drained three's to start the second half to keep the game within reach.  Hollins cut the lead to one at 45-44, but Roanoke answered with another 11-0 run to put the feisty home team away, 70-53.
 
Tamara Phillips, found her shooting touch from the outside and poured in a game-high 27 points.  Phillips hit 6-of-14 from beyond the arc.  Fresh off a 30-point game on Tuesday, Jasmine Greenescored 13 points while grabbing five rebounds and dished out a game-high eight assists.  Lacie Forrestadded five rebounds, four assists, and five steals.
 
Roanoke got 18 points each from Hannah Davidson and Nicci Moats.  Davidson provided the outside game for the Maroons, hitting a career-high 6-of-8 from three-point range.  Moats had her seventh double-double of the season, grabbing 14 rebounds to go along with four blocked shots. Her 42 blocks tie Donna Cogar '92 for ninth on the single-season blocks list with 42. Her 89 career blocked shots trail Cogar by one to tie her for fifth on the all-time list.
 
Rebecca Bays narrowly missed her first career double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds in addition to six assists. Jordan Gholson contributed 14 points and five rebounds. Rachel Dellehunt added four assists and a team-best three steals.
 
The women return to action on Jan. 25 as they host Randolph in conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm. at the Bast Center.
