Bridgewater Topples Roanoke, 85-68
BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater ignited a big second half and Jordan Burkholder had a triple-double in the Eagles, 85-68 win over Roanoke at Nininger Hall Tuesday evening. BC improved to 15-3, 10-3 in the ODAC, while the Maroons dropped to 11-5, 10-2 in the conference.

The Maroons out-rebounded Bridgewater, 40-34, outscored BC, 15-8 in second chance points and outshot the Eagles, going 50% from the floor. BC shot 43% on the night, but it was Bridgewater's 46%-to-18% advantage beyond the arc that proved to be a major factor in the game. Bridgewater scored 31 points off 26 Maroon turnovers.

The game was deadlocked throughout most of the half before Roanoke controlled play.  The Maroons maintained the lead in the final eight minutes of the half and went into the locker room with a 45-40 lead.

Out of the break, Roanoke looked to push its lead to double figures by netting the first four points of the half to take a 49-40 lead with 18:22 remaining. The Eagles responded as they sparked an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to cut the Maroons advantage to 49-48.

Bridgewater broke the game wide-open with a 17-4 run which put the Eagles ahead, 75-62 with 6:31 to go. The Maroons got back within single digits in their final run, but the Eagles hit their free-throws down to stretch to secure the win.

Burkholder triple-double was one of the stories of the game for the Eagles as the senior netted 15 points, a career-high 12 assists and 10 rebounds in the win. She also had seven steals in arguably her finest collegiate performance.  Jessica Mullen poured in a game-high 27-point effort on 11-of-20 shooting.

Logan also aided the Eagles scoring effort with 22 points, while Hottinger added 15 of her own.

Roanoke was led offensively by an explosive 19-point effort from Nicci Moats to go along with a career-best 17 rebounds and four blocked shots. She beat her own blocked shot mark from last season (50) and moved into third for most blocks in a single-season.

Jordan Gholson chipped in 18 points, shooting 9-of-10 from the floor for the Maroons. She is now fifth on the ODAC's all-time blocked shots list with 195. Her 1,087 career points trail Donna Cogar '92 by eight for 13th on Roanoke's all-time scoring list.

Kylie Lucas contributed eight points and six rebounds while Rebecca Bays finished with six markers, seven boards and dished out five assists. Bays is one assist shy of 12th on the career assists list at Roanoke.

The women return to action on Friday, Feb. 4 as they host Washington and Lee in ODAC action. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at the Bast Center.
