Roanoke Dominant against Emory & Henry, 90-45
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke jumped out to a 10-0 lead and cruised to a 90-45 victory over Emory & Henry in ODAC women's basketball action Tuesday evening at the Bast Center. The win propels the Maroons to 13-6 overall, 12-3 in the ODAC. The Wasps slipped to 3-16, 2-13 in conference play.
 
The win improved their record to 48-22 against Emory & Henry, all under 30-year coaching legend, Susan Dunagan. The Maroons have won five-straight over the Wasps, all by an average of over 30-points. Roanoke is now 7-1 at home this season.
 
The Maroons, ranked fifth in the NCAA South Region Rankings, shot a blistering 70% from the floor in the first half to take a commanding 56-14 halftime lead as the Wasps never threatened. Every player for Roanoke scored a basket in the victory.
 
For the game, Roanoke shot a season-best 68% overall, including 50% from three-point range and hit 80% from the free-throw line which tied a season-best. It was the third time the Maroons have shot over 50-percent from beyond the arc. They dished out a season-high 21 assists and had 40 rebounds for the seventh-straight game.
 
Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, VA, Lord Botetourt) led the Maroons with 21 points, shooting 10-of-12 from the field and eight rebounds. It was her sixth 20-point outburst of the season. Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA, Fort Defiance) scored a career-best 16 points, shooting 6-of-8 from the floor and 3-of-3 from the line.
 
Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County) scored all 10 of her counters in the first half, shooting 5-of-6 to go along with four boards, three steals and two blocked shots. Kendra Porter (Jamestown, NC, Dudley) and Sydney Webb (Hillsville, VA, Carroll County) added eight points each while Rebecca Bays (Roanoke, VA, William Byrd) contributed six points and five assists.
 
Jalan McPherson led Emory & Henry with 17 points, hitting five three-pointers on the evening. Ashlyn Baird contributed seven points and Faith Walker had six makers and four boards.
 
The women return to action this weekend as they travel Friday to Lynchburg to take on Randolph College at 7 p.m. They turn around on Saturday afternoon to take on Hollins at 4 p.m. at the Bast Center.
