Moats Sets Single-Season Blocks Record in Roanoke Victory Over Lynchburg
SALEM, Va--- Roanoke topped ODAC-foe Lynchburg, 71-49 Tuesday evening at the Bast Center. The Maroons improved to 16-6, 15-3 in conference play, while the Hornets fell to 7-17, 7-12 in the ODAC.
 
Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, VA, Lord Botetourt) recorded a career-high five blocked shots, all in the first half, to pass teammate Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County)to set a new single-season record at Roanoke College.   She added 20 points and 12 boards to give her 12 double-doubles on the year.
 
Rebecca Bays (Roanoke, VA, William Byrd) moved into the top-10 all-time in career assists at Roanoke, passing Amy Saunders. Her three assists on the night gave her 241 for her career.
 
The Maroons held a 47-32 rebounding edge over the Hornets and held them to just 39% shooting from the floor. Roanoke also forced 18 turnovers and recorded 12 steals on the contest.
 
The lead changed hands seven times in the first half, including five ties. Lynchburg led 20-18 with just under five minutes to play, before the lady Maroons closed the half on a 13-4 run to take the lead for good.
 
Both teams traded baskets for the first 10-minutes of the second period, until Roanoke rang off a 19-7 run to put the game away and take a 63-44 advantage with under four minutes remaining. Moats paced the Maroons with 10 points during the final stretch. 
 
Katie Crum led the Hornets with 16 points and eight caroms, while Caitlin Falls added 10 points and seven boards. Courtney Brewer tossed in seven markers and pulled down six rebounds on the night.
 
Bays finished with 15 points and nine rebounds to go along with her three dimes. Kendra Porter (Jamestown, NC, Dudley) chipped in with a solid all-around performance, contributing six points, six boards, four steals, and three assists. Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA, Fort Defiance) added six points, a team-high five assists, and three rebounds against her former team.
 
The Maroons return to action Friday, Feb. 18th as they travel down I-64 East for the final weekend of ODAC play. The women will take on Randolph-Macon Friday at 7:00 p.m. and at Virginia Wesleyan Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
