Roanoke had two players represented on the 2010-11 All-ODAC Team for women's basketball this evening during the ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament Banquet at the Salem Civic Center. Nicci Moats was voted to the first-team while Jordan Gholson earned second-team honors.
Moats, a junior center, leads the ODAC in rebounding (11.2 rpg) and blocked shots (73) this season en route to earning her first all-conference award. The member of the 2006-07 national championship squad at Tennessee, Moats is ranked nationally in double-doubles (24th), blocked shots per game (18th) and rebounding (28th).
A two-sport athlete at Roanoke (as a member of the volleyball team), Moats leads the Maroons in scoring (15.8 ppg) and free-throws made (81) while second in steals (39). She has seven 20-point games this season and 13 double-doubles, including four-straight in the final five games of the season.
Gholson, a senior forward, leads the ODAC and was ranked 20th in the country in field goal percentage (55%). She is ranked fifth in the conference in blocked shots (32) and 10th in rebounding (6.8 rpg). The team captain garnered her third all-conference honor, leading the Maroons to a 17-7 mark, including a 16-4 conference record which places them third in this week's conference tournament.
The school's all-time blocked shots leader (205), is currently fourth on the ODAC all-time list as well. She became the 16th member of the 1,000-point club at Roanoke and enters this weekend with 1,168 career points (10th all-time). She is ranked among the career top-10 at Roanoke in free-throw percentage (6th), field goal percentage (5th) and rebounding (8th).
Roanoke, which is a #3 seed in the ODAC Tournament, will take on #6 Virginia Wesleyan for the second time in five days in the quarterfinal round. The Maroons swept the season series, including an 81-74 win over the Marlins in the regular season finale in Virginia Beach. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center.
